Open Reduction and Fixation of Trapezium Fracture

چکیده
Fractures of trapezium are very rare accounting for about 0.4% of the hand’s injuries [1]. However, they should not be missed because inadequate treatment of trapezium fractures can lead to permanent impairment based on the substantial forces experienced at the trapeziometacarpal (TMC) joint in pinch and grip [2]. When present, often result of high energy trauma and occur in association with other injuries, most commonly fracture of the first (thumb) metacarpal followed by other carpal bone injuries and the distal radius [3]. In a trans-trapezium fracturedislocation the body of the trapezium is usually split vertically [4]. Several methods have been described in the literature for treatment of this rare fracture, from conservative treatment in plaster to open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) [5]. In this article, we report an isolated vertical split trapezium fracture following a fall onto an extended left thumb. It was performed an ORIF with a screw, which resulted in an excellent functional outcome at 6 months follow-up.

Bennett’s fracture associated with fracture of Trapezium - A rare injury of first carpo-metacarpal joint
Association of fracture of trapezium with Bennett's fracture is very rare and makes reduction and stabilisation more difficult. We are reporting a rare case of Bennett's fracture with fracture of the trapezium and subluxation of the carpo-metacarpal joint (CMC) joint. The patient was a 47-year-old school teacher who fell from his motorbike on his outstretched right dominant hand. Radiographs an...

A 26 year old man was referred to us with extensor pollicis longus dysfunction (EPL), and investigation revealed a fracture of the trapezium (left) and carpo-metacarpal joint dislocation of the thumb. Operative exploration revealed mechanical displacement of the tendon secondary to fracture dislocation of the trapezium as the cause for EPL dysfunction. The lesion was managed with an open reduct...
متن کامل[Dislocation of the carpometacarpal joint of the thumb associated with trapezium and Bennett's fractures].
We report a case of a carpometacarpal joint dislocation of the thumb associated with trapezium and Bennett's fractures. This combined injury pattern appears to be very rare. To our knowledge, no such case was found in the literature. The patient had open reduction internal fixation with pins and screws, with good functional outcome.
متن کاملOpen complete dislocation of trapezium with a vertically split fracture: a case report
Open complete dislocation of the trapezium is an extraordinarily rare injury with only a few cases reported so far in literature. The association of a vertically split fracture makes this injury even rare and hence worth reporting. A 14 year old Kashmiri boy presented to us with a history of massive trauma to the non dominant left hand sustained as a result of a blow from a heavy hammer. The th...

Background: Open reduction and internal fixation is the standard surgical approach for lisfranc fracture, however, osteoarthritis is a long term complication. We surveyed the frequency of osteoarthritis after open reduction and internal fixation of lisfranc fracture and its associated factors including accompanied fracture, delayed diagnosis and open or closed fracture.
